Bucks County Controller Pamela Van Blunk

(From a press release)

Pamela Van Blunk, Bucks County Controller, is pleased to announce that last week the Controller’s Office returned over $60,133 in unclaimed funds to Horizon House, a leading human services non-profit organization. Upon learning of the significant unclaimed funds, Controller Van Blunk and her office worked with Horizon House Controller Deborah Bordley and President and CEO Jeffrey Wilush to confirm that a check was unclaimed and that payment had not subsequently been reissued.

Upon confirmation, Van Blunk promptly reissued the check and hand-delivered the payment to Bordley.

In Bucks County, Horizon House provides vital intellectual and developmental services including community residential living, life sharing, supported living, behavior supports, home and community habilitation, counseling, community integrated employment services and specialized services for autism. It also provides needed behavioral health, homeless and intellectual and developmental services in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Lehigh counties and the state of Delaware.

Van Blunk is pleased to return the unclaimed funds to Horizon House stating “it’s an honor to ensure taxpayer dollars are accounted for and returned to where they belong. Returning these funds to Horizon House, a nonprofit doing vital work for individuals with mental health and intellectual disabilities, is a great example of that mission in action.”

“We were both impressed and pleased with how quickly the Controller’s Office worked to reissue monies promised to Horizon House. Being our work benefits the underserved in our communities; these funds will go a long way in providing the essential programming our participants have come to rely on. We thank Controller Van Blunk again for acting so promptly to ensure these funds were received personally so that they can be put to the best use possible” said Wilush.

Van Blunk started the Unclaimed Funds program in Bucks County just a few short years ago. Since its inception, Van Blunk has returned almost $1,000,000 to the rightful owners and there is more than $1.5 million in unclaimed funds to be returned.

In Bucks County, unclaimed funds consist of money belonging to individuals and organizations doing business with or receiving services from the county or the courts.  Van Blunk wants the public to know that the list is updated monthly, with additional unclaimed funds “so check the list monthly, quarterly or at a minimum, annually” she says.

To see if you have any unclaimed funds, visit the website and click on the “Unclaimed Funds Listing” link to search the list.  You can use the “Control F” function to search for a specific name. If Bucks County is holding your unclaimed funds, the application and instructions on how to obtain your funds are on the same webpage. Van Blunk reminds the public that they can claim their monies directly from the Controller’s office via U.S mail without any service charges or fees.  Once the Controller’s office verifies their application and documentation, they will receive the funds in approximately 4-6 weeks.
