State Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester County)

After years of hard work and determination,Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester) joined senior leaders from ChristianaCare and other elected officials at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new hospital in Jennersville to celebrate the return of emergency medical care to southern Chester County.  Friday’s event saw several hundred attendees, including local business leaders, townships officials, and contractors who constructed the new facility.

“For the past several years, my number one priority has been bringing emergency room and hospital care back to Jennersville,” said Lawrence.  “Working together with local, county, state, and federal officials, and the leadership team at ChristianaCare, today we celebrate an incredible milestone for Southern Chester County with the opening of a brand-new hospital with a brand-new emergency room to serve our community.”

Rep. John Lawrence joined former Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter, ChristianaCare Senior Vice President Doug Azar, and ChristianaCare Chief Public Affairs Officer Bettina Tweardy Riveros at the July 25, 2025 ribbon cutting for the new hospital in West Grove.

“Shortly after the hospital closed at the end of 2021, I organized a meeting with key leaders at ChristianaCare and then-Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter,” added Lawrence.  “We met just down the road from where we are standing today to talk about what it would take to bring hospital care and an ER back to this area.  Today, we celebrate the fruition of the seeds planted at those early meetings – a state-of-the-art health care facility that will serve our community for the next generation.”

After Tower Health announced their plans to end services in Jennersville, Lawrence cold-called senior leadership at ChristianaCare to gauge their interest in operating the hospital.  That call, followed by a series of meetings with local and state officials, culminated in ChristianaCare’s purchase of the hospital complex in June 2022.  Rather than reopen the old facility, ChristianaCare instead gutted and completely rebuilt a new hospital and emergency room in the old building shell.  The result is a new, state of the art facility that is ready to serve the community for the next generation.

“I am very grateful to the entire leadership team at ChristianaCare, who have been some of the most kind and professional people I have had the pleasure of working with,” said Lawrence.  “On behalf of a grateful community, thank you ChristianaCare for investing in West Grove, and thank you for your commitment to Southern Chester County.”
