Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s running mate, according to multiple media sources and the Trump campaign. But Shapiro’s office brushed off questions about the report and Democratic insiders told DVJournal the vice presidential vetting process is still underway.
Chris LaCivita, Republican National Committee COO and senior adviser to Donald Trump, wrote on X citing “Reliable Sources.”
Independent conservative journalist Kyle Becker reported Wednesday, “The Harris campaign has reportedly decided to settle on Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania governor, as her VP pick.”
ABC News reports Harris’ list is down to two: Shapiro and U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), a former astronaut.
“Sources tell ABC News that Harris called Shapiro on Sunday after she officially launched her campaign for the presidency,” they report.
Shapiro, two years into his first term as Pennsylvania governor, has been rumored to be on Harris’s shortlist ever since President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday.
Other alleged candidates include Govs. Andy Beshear (Ky.), Roy Cooper (N.C.), and Gretchen Whitmer (Mich.). But Whitmer appeared to shoot down the idea during an appearance in Michigan State University Tuesday night.
“It’s flattering to be mentioned, it’s flattering to have been on a list or considered. My commitment is to Michigan through the end of this term, and that’s exactly where I am going to be,” Whitmer said.
Asked whether he’s heard if Shapiro is Harris’s choice, Montgomery County Democratic state committeeman Joe Foster told DVJournal that the party has heard the rumors.”And there are clues that suggest the same, but it is all speculation at this point,” he said.
One Democratic strategist who is not connected to the Harris campaign, told DVJournal, “Means nothing. They are still vetting people.”
The Governor’s Office told DVJournal that they were inundated with calls and would respond as soon as they can.
