Delaware Valley residents were out in force over the weekend to stock up on provisions for their Super Bowl parties, with the home team, the Eagles, as a contestant. Hoping to capitalize on the crowds to do some good, the Weavers Way Co-op held a fundraiser to raise money for earthquake relief.
Weavers Way, the Philadelphia area’s largest co-op, matched donations at all three of its locations over weekend during the busy Super Bowl shopping rush.
Weavers Way Co-op held a special at-the-register fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders, which is doing vital work in the aftermath of the earthquake that has been so devastating in Turkey and Syria. More than 30,000 people were killed in the temblor.
The co-op will match all donations up to a maximum co-op contribution of $2,000. Including that contribution, the co-op and its customers raised $9,590.8.
The Mt. Airy store raised $3,385.54 from 611 donors with an average gift of $5.54. The Chestnut Hill location raised $2,335.49 from 338 donors with an average gift of $6.91 and the Ambler store raised $1,869.45 from 284 donors with an average gift of $6.58. The total from the three locations was $7,590.48
